Three years ago, Ps Tim and Nicki had it on their hearts to do something for the community over the Christmas holiday season. The concept was simple - save a grocery item each week throughout the year and then on a designated day, everyone brings these items together. The items are packed in laundry baskets and delivered to families in our local community. We called the project Bayside Baskets. The first year saw over 70 baskets delivered and in the second year nearly 120 baskets were delivered.

At the beginning of 2006, after talking with our local high school, we discovered a large area of need that existed for many families in our community at the start of every school year. To help bless these families we made a decision to focus Bayside Baskets towards helping providing assistance in this area. Bayside Back to School Baskets was born.

The concept and pattern was still the same however this time we asked people to put aside a little money each week in the tins provided or to make a weekly purchase of a needed item according to lists provided.

The items and money were collected at the end of 2006 and in January this year 46 families (64 students) received a laundry basket specifically suited to the year level of their children, full of stationary and food for school lunches, providing much-needed help at the start of a new year.

Please join with us in 2007 as together we help make a difference in the lives of families within our community who are doing it tough. Everybody doing a little means we can achieve a lot.

We are all grateful for your kind generosity and financial help with our son's stationary needs. Your thoughts and prayers are a deeply and meaningful appreciation from all our family who suffer from low income and find basic means hard to manage as we are a family of seven. Thank you for your much appreciated help and support. May God bless you all.

I was overwhelmed by your generosity. The basket of stationary was way beyond my expectations. We had a tough year in 2006 and the death of my Mum finished it off on a very sad note. When I received your letter informing me that a basket would be delivered in January, I sat and cried. I can't thank your church enough for this random act of kindness and concern. A church that gives without expecting something in return is a very rare thing these days and I have been singing your praises all over Geelong ever since. Once again I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your gift, you will never know how much it meant to us.
